Knockcroghery Deputy provided Declan and Joe Miley with another Belclare Premier Sale Supreme Championship at Kilkenny Mart. Judge on the day Jim Jeffrey selected the Mileys ram as his champion ram lamb before awarding him the overall championship and the O’Dea cup.

The largest exhibition of Belclare sheep of the year took place last Sunday at Clonmel Show, where all six classes were strongly contested.
Mullingar show provided the final show of Belclares before their Premier Sale next month and a final chance for breeders to showcase some of their rams before the day.
Sheep 2018 held at the Teagasc Campus in Athenry was selected as the location of the 2018 Belclare Sheep National Championships. Breeders travelled from all over the country to ensure there was a strong representation of the breed and fierce competition in the classes.
Saturday June 9th saw Cillin Hill host the NSBA championships, the highlight of the 2018 sheep calendar, with an enormous turnout of quality sheep on display from most of the breed societies. 

Sunday the 24th of June saw attentions turned to Athlone Show which was hosting their annual show at new premises for the first time. In glorious sunshine, Belclare breeders presented an excellent display of sheep.

The 2018 showing season for the Belclare breeders kicked off at Corofin Show on Sunday, where the miserable weather did little to deter breeders, who produced a quality display of sheep.

Clonmel show played host to the second Belclare show of the year, and breeders in attendance were rewarded with a glorious sunny day and competitive classes.

A wet and windy day did nothing to dampen the spirits of the Belclare breeders at Athlone show.

A fine display of Belclares were produced on the day, with 51 high quality sheep taking part making Judge Liam Coen’s job very difficult. Claiming top spot in the Hogget Ewe class was Declan and Joe Miley, with a homebred ewe that was winning first prize for the third weekend in a row...
Belclares were back in their home province for what proved to be a very strong sale at Roscommon Mart on Saturday September 26th. Richard and John Lalor had made the long journey from Clonmel in Co. Tipperary with two rams and it proved to be well worth while when their Rathkenty Adonis entered the ring. This early January born lamb attracted plenty of attention and it was soon clear that the previous year’s top price of €555 was going to be surpassed...

There was great demand for Belclare Rams at the Society’s Annual Premier Show and Sale held at Kilkenny Mart on Tuesday August 4th. There was strong demand for high index rams on the day which led to some tremendous prices...

The Supreme Championship went to a hogget ewe from the Rathkenty Flock of Richard and John Lalor, which had also won as a ewe lamb last year when the Belclare National Championships were held at this venue, saw off older opposition again to take her class. The Reserve Championship was awarded to a ewe lamb from Liam and Eoin Dunne...

A good turnout of Belclares led to competitive classes, and it was the females that led the way. A ewe lamb from Liam Delaney’s Coolgarragh Flock took the overall supreme champion rosette. This well grown ewe lamb had earlier been placed first in her class...

Declan and Joe Miley maintained their high standards when having a red letter day at Sheep 2015 which was held on the lands of the Teagasc Research Centre in Athenry. The Mileys took the Supreme Championship with their aged ewe, who had seen off some strong competition to claim the first prize in her class. Saturday November 7th saw the Belclare Society hold their first in lamb ewe sale. The sale was solely for in lamb hogget ewes and attracted some outstanding breeding propositions from the Coolkellure, Kilmeany, Rathkenty and Slanemore Hill flocks and offered both new and existing breeders the opportunity to acquire some of the breeds top bloodlines.
